First Post; Chilly August, Dean

Welcome to the Groton Weather Global Warming Blog, where I hope to show the other, underreported side of Global Warming. This is the side that says it is a bunch of hogwash. I will address current events in the news and weather and show the other side of the story.

And so I will start with yesterday: In Groton, we had a high of 65. I have been keeping records for 5 years now, and that is the coldest high temperature on record. Although, that might be broken today since we are only at 58 just a bit before noon. My point here is this: Why are we setting record low highs? Shouldn't the temperature be going up? It is not just this month either. We also set records for the lowest high of the month in both February and March. Last year, September and October saw the lowest high temperatures. You be the judge.

Hurricane Dean recently made landfall as a category 5 hurricane on the Yucatan Peninsula. The first thing that probably comes to mind is: "Oh no, a category 5! They don't come worse than that! Must be global warming!" However, as reported by Jesse Ferrel of Accuweather.com this morning, this is the first hurricane to make landfall as a category 5 since Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Furthermore, Dean ranked third behind two other storms for the lowest pressure at landfall, falling behind Gilbert (1988) and, with the lowest pressure ever, the Labor Day Hurricane way back in 1935. One category 5 in over 10 years? The strongest hurricane still back in 1935? How is that Global Warming?
